Hey there — most people call me Jai.

I’m a teacher and reflective writer. I want to say something profound here, but the truth is, I use Medium to share the thoughts I’m most comfortable discussing publicly. Most of my writing centres on education, the classroom, and the quiet moments that shape who we are as learners and educators.

But if you stick around long enough, you’ll notice something else — I’m in love with my country. Every time I travel, I catch myself imagining how policies, practices, or simple systems from other places could be adapted back home in Jamaica. I think about what could work, what wouldn’t, and how we might do things in our own way.

Don’t get me wrong — I love the warmth and creativity that resonates from my countrymen. We know how to have a good time. There’s a spirit in Jamaica that’s hard to describe but easy to feel, and it stays with you wherever you go.

I don’t have all the answers — I’m just a Jamaican gyal with a lot on her mind.
