Medium: My Quiet Companion Through the Years

When I first signed up for Medium back in 2019, I wasn’t exactly sure what I was looking for. I knew it was a place for writing, for sharing ideas, for longer conversations than the ones you usually find on social media. But I didn’t realise just how much it would come to mean to me – not just as a platform, but as a quiet space where I could hear myself think again.

Medium, for me, isn’t just a tool to post articles. It’s been a steady companion through late nights when sleep wouldn’t come, when writing and reading here were the only things that helped quiet my mind. I’ve written through heartbreak, through successes, through the slow unraveling of friendships I thought would last, and through some of the highest highs of my life.

I remember when I first started publishing – lying on the floor of my tiny kitchen in deep Inaka Kyushu, tapping out articles after long days at work. Back then, it was a way to stay connected to myself in a place where everything felt unfamiliar. Now, I write overlooking the ocean, often pinning for home, but still reaching for the same thing: a place to catch my thoughts before they drift too far away.

Writing here feels different. It feels intentional. It asks for something more – not just cleverness or speed, but presence. Whether I’m reflecting on work, sharing lessons I’ve learned…
