Relationships

When I sit and reflect on my life over the last 10 years, what has been the most disappointing aspect has been my relationships. My relationship with my family as well as my relationship with friends has caused me many a sleepless night. I have lost friends and people that I thought I would have been friends with well into my golden years. I must admit that I was wrong. I’m sorry they didn’t work out and ever so often I think about what I could have done differently.

As I am sitting on my flight destined for Kingston and writing this article, I am reflecting on relationships that I had that just whittled away. Some more rapidly than others. Some relationships had been on life support for some time and others ended swiftly.

People are complex

Even the nicest person you ever met has some negative aspects to their personality. People are multidimensional. Our thoughts, feelings and responses change day to day even though at our core we may hold some fundamental beliefs. It stands to reason that throughout our life, through our interactions and our experiences with others we will change and adapt. I am sharing this because as we seek to maintain friendships it is important to understand that like many other things, people change. People evolve and grow as we move through space and time. If we are to maintain relationships, this needs to be at the forefront of our minds…
